Suspect impersonates cop to buy fishing gear

Police are looking for a man who impersonated a deputy in a Dana Point store and bought nearly $3,000 worth of fishing rods and reels.

Police are looking for a man who impersonated a deputy in a Dana Point store and bought nearly $3,000 worth of fishing rods and reels.

The suspect entered The Jig Shop at 34186 Pacific Coast Highway and bought four rods and four reels on Sunday, March 11. He used fake identification and showed the clerk a star-shaped badge, saying he was a deputy sheriff from Mission Viejo.

The bank later contacted the victim and advised him of the fraudulent activity.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 210 pounds. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
