"Skyfall," the 23rd film in the hit James Bond spy franchise, has reportedly added a new Bond Girl and appears to have undergone what could be a boozy shakeup.
Greek star Tonia Sotiropoulou, who lives in London, will play the famed super spy's girlfriend in the movie, according to the website mi-6-hq.com.
It quoted the 24-year-old actress as saying on her Facebook page: "I officially announce I got a part in J.Bond new film!!! Turkey here I come! Thank u all for your love and support! This is officially the happiest day of my life bitches!!!"
The actress has previously starred in Greek television shows and has never appeared in a major film before. The website said Sotiropoulou will begin filming "two or three" scenes in Istanbul, Turkey over the course of five days, beginning on April 22.
According to the report, she had initially auditioned for the larger role of Bond Girl Severine, a part that eventually went to French star Berenice Marlohe. It said the Greek actress' agency, Back Door Management, resubmitted her for consideration for a different role and that she auditioned for it on Friday. It said Mendes told her she had landed the part on Tuesday.
Reps for Sotiropoulou the film's studio, Sony Pictures, and director Sam Mendes had no immediate comment. Production on "Skyfall" began in October 2011. Filming is being done in Turkey as well as Scotland, England and Shanghai, China, where the first still image from the film was shot. It shows Craig as James Bond, holding a pistol.
"Skyfall" hits theaters on October 26 in the United Kingdom and November 9 in the United States. It also features another new female character, the gun-toting field agent Eve, played by Naomie Harris. The actress is known for her role as Tia Dalma in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films. She said her Bond character thinks of herself as the spy's "equal."
In the film, Bond's loyalty to Judi Dench's character, M, head of MI6, is tested after her past comes back to haunt her. The British Secret Intelligence Service is attacked and 007 sets off to stop its perpetrator. Also, in at least one scene, he will "swap his trademark martini" for a sip of Heineken beer, according to a recent report by Advertising Age.
Heineken, a Dutch spirits company, announced in February that it had extended a 15-year partnership with the James Bond Franchise and will launch a new marketing campaign in September. Advertising Age said images of Bond will be featured on the beer's packaging.
The character's signature drink has usually been a Vodka martini that is "shaken, not stirred" but Bond has been served other beverages, such as bourbon and a Mojito, which Pierce Brosnan's Bond orders in the 2002 movie "Die Another Day."
Craig started his run as Bond in a 2006 remake of "Casino Royale," which sees him asks for a Vodka martini. He is asked if he would like it "shaken or stirred," to which he replies: "Do I look like I give a damn?"
"Skyfall" hits theaters some 50 years after the release of the first James Bond movie, the 1962 film "Dr. No," which starred Sean Connery. Craig is the sixth actor to play the character. He said at a press conderence in November: "If I could do this for a few more years I'd be more than happy."
