Britney Spears' fiancé and former manager Jason Trawick is about to take on a different role in the pop singer's life.

Britney's father Jamie Spears has asked a court to make Trawick a co-conservator over his daughter, according to People magazine. The move will give her future husband legal control over the singer's "general well being," including food, clothing and medical care.

Spears has been under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears since February 2008. Trawick and Spears have been dating since the summer of 2009. Prior to that, the two had a professional relationship as Trawick was Spears' manager. The two ended their professional ties in May 2010 to "focus on their personal relationship."

The conservatorship can be lifted once a judge and Spears' doctors agree that the singer can manage her own affairs.

Spears got engaged to Trawick on December 15, Trawick confirmed the news, telling Access Hollywood, "Yes, we are engaged... [We are] over the moon."

Previously, Spears was married to Kevin Federline for two and a half years before their marriage ended in 2007. Spears and Federline have two sons together, Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5.

Federline said he was "really happy" for Spears and her engagement and thinks Jason Trawick is "a great guy."

"I want to say she's in a good place," Federline told Australia's TV Week.. "I haven't spoken to her much since I've been over here -- both of us have been busy with her being on tour -- but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids' teachers that they're doing really good. It's a good step in the right direction. I'm totally happy for her."

Spears' first marriage, which was annulled after 55 hours, was to her childhood friend Jason Alexander. The pair wed in 2004 in Las Vegas and while Federline approved of his ex-wife's engagement, Alexander said he was not happy about it.

"I think it's fake and I think people are afraid to say it," Alexander said in February. "They look like they are going through the motions. It seems like an answer to the court thing... Sort of a nice way to sew it all up she marries her handler."
