OTRC: 'The Hunger Games' tops box office for third weekend with $33.5 million

"The Hunger Games" is making a killing at the box office. The film, based on a book by the same name, topped the box office for a third week in a row with an estimated $33.5 million, according to the Associated Press.

The weekend box office business now raises the film's domestic total to $302.8 million.

In the film, Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen, a young woman who lives in a post-apocalyptic future where a boy and girl from various districts are chosen and taken to a massive area where they must survive and fight to death. This annual event, dubbed The Hunger Games, takes place in front of cameras, who broadcast their every move to viewers.

In second place is the fourth feature film of the "American Pie" franchise to hit theaters called "American Reunion." The film brings back the original cast from the first movie in the franchise and earned $21.5 million.

"American Reunion" sees the characters attending their high school reunion and was released on April 6. It stars other past cast members such as main star Chris Klein, Jason Biggs, Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Mena Suvari, Natasha Lyonne, Chris Owen, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jennifer Coolidge and Alyson Hannigan.

The revamped 3D version of the 1997 blockbuster hit "Titanic" came in third place with $17.4 million. The film, which opened on Wednesday, April 4, has earned a total of $21.5 million in the new 3D format so far. The sum raises the movie's lifetime domestic gross to $626.5 million.

The sequel "Wrath of the Titans" with Sam Worthington and Liam Neeson, came in fourth place at the box office, taking in an estimated $15 million. So far the film, which had a $150 million budget has grossed $58 million domestically in two weeks.

Julia Robert's "Mirror Mirror" finishes out the top five films with an estimated $11 million haul, raising its three-week domestic total to $36 million.
