The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. Thursday on Chapman Avenue and Pioneer Drive in Garden Grove. The woman was hit by the driver of a blue SUV. She died at a hospital.
The SUV driver, Steven Newcomer, fled the scene, but he was arrested shortly after inside a gated community near the crash.
The driver had signs of intoxication. He was booked for felony hit-and-run, felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
