Denise Richards is set to guest star on ex-husband Charlie Sheen's new FX sitcom, "Anger Management." and says she is "really excited to be part of the show."
The series is set to debut on June 28. A teaser video was recently released and shows the actor in a coffin, in an apparent tongue-in-cheek mockery of his ousting from the hit CBS series "Two and a Half Men," which killed his character, Charlie Harper, after he was fired amid a meltdown.
Richards will play Lori, the new business partner of Charlie's onscreen ex, portrayed by Shawnee Smith, TV Line reported.
"Finished the table reading for #AngerManagement," Richards Tweeted on Friday, April 13. "Funny episode! Really excited to be part of the show..."
"Anger Management" is based on a 2003 film starring Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. In the series, Sheen plays a former baseball player, also named Charlie, who suffers from rage issues but somehow becomes an anger management therapist. Selma Blair plays another counselor who is also a possible love interest, while Sheen's father, Martin, will play his dad.
Sheen said on NBC's "Today" show in March that his new TV character is "flawed," adding: "He's an ex-ball player who had anger issues whose career ended because of an incident. And he's a guy that just wants to give something back."
He appeared to take yet another verbal swipe at the producers of "Two and a Half Men," saying: "So far, eight days there was more fun than eight years."
Richards also guest-starred on "Two and a Half Men," playing Sheen's character's ex-girlfriend. The actress appeared on one of her episodes while she was pregnant with Sam, one of their two daughters, who later played her baby in another one. Richards also played a love interest to Sheen's character on his previous comedy series, "Spin City."
Richards and Sheen married in 2002. Richards filed for divorce in 2005 while pregnant with Lola, their youngest daughter. A year later, the actress obtained a restraining order against Sheen, accusing him of threatening her. He denied this. The order was later dropped. They have remained friendly in recent years and often spend time together with their children.
Richards, who last year adopted a baby girl, Eloise, posted a photo of her, Sheen and their daughters on her Twitter page on April 4, saying: "Girls loved visiting daddy @charliesheen on set today! #AngerManagement."
She said on Friday, April 13, that Sheen has planned a "fun weekend" with her and the children.
Sheen reTweeted her and added: "Will be great to all be together!"
Sheen married Brooke Mueller in 2008. They are parents to twins, Max and Bob. In December 2009, they were involved in a confrontation that led to him pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault. He was sentenced to 30 days in a rehabilitation center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of ... anger management. Sheen and Mueller divorced in May 2011. Nowadays, the two also spend time together with their children.
"Proud of @BrookeMueller & my sons today on their 3rd birthday!" Sheen Tweeted on March 31, alongside a photo of his twins and his third ex-wife, who he called "awesome."
