Mindy McCready welcomed her second child, a son named Zayne on April 9, though it was previously announced that the country singer was expecting twins.
"Zayne is truly a blessing and a joy," McCready and her boyfriend David Wilson said in a statement to E! News on April 12. "It was a long and trying pregnancy - we're so happy he's here. There are no words to convey how happy we are."
It was announced in November that McCready was expecting twins. Her rep told the entertainment outlet, "At the time of the initial announcement surrounding Mindy's pregnancy, in consideration of her size, Mindy was certain she was carrying twins - a misinterpreted sonogram seemed to support her feelings and excitement."
The 36-year-old singer made headlines late last year after refusing to return her 5-year-old son Zander back to his Florida home following a visit. McCready's mother, Gayle Inge, was awarded guardianship of Zander in 2007 following the singer's trouble with the law.
McCready violated a custody order by taking Zander to Arkansas, but she claimed she was protecting her child and could not return him home as she was seven months pregnant at the time. On December 2, McCready and Zander were found "hiding in a closet" by U.S. Marshalls in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Zander, whose father is McCready's ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight, was placed in foster care while the custody dispute is resolved.
The singer has dealt with domestic abuse, drug and DUI arrests as well as a suicide attempt since the mid-1990s, after she released her double platinum debut album "Ten Thousand Angels" in 1996.
She was arrested in 2007 for getting into a fight with her mother and resisting arrest. In 2008, McCready was admitted to a Nashville hospital for a suicide attempt after police said she cut her wrists and took several pills. McCready appeared on the third season "Celebrity Rehab" in 2010.
