Pakistani plane crashes with 127 passengers on board

ISLAMABAD

The plane took off from Karachi and was trying to land during a thunder storm near the capital city when it went down in wheat fields.

Emergency workers used flashlights to search among smoldering wreckage and body parts for any sign of life at the crash site, which was just a few miles from the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

It was unclear whether any people on the ground were killed, but the crash happened in what appeared to be a rural area. Several farmers saw the plane go up in flames when it hit the ground.

Parts of what looked like the engine and wing were up against the wall of a small building.

A strong rain, wind and thunder storm was passing over the capital at the time of the crash.
