Martin Lawrence has officially filed for divorce from his second wife, Shamicka Gibbs, after he announced that they planned to end their almost 2-year marriage.
The 47-year-old comedian and actor and Gibbs, 36, wed in Beverly Hills, California in July 2010 and had signed a prenuptial agreement. They have two daughters together - Iyanna, 11, and Amara, 9, while Lawrence has another teenage daughter with his first wife. He and Gibbs were together for 15 years prior to tying the knot.
Lawrence cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, which took place on April 24, according to his divorce papers, which were submitted a day later, OnTheRedCarpet.com has learned. He is seeking joint legal and physical custody of his and Gibbs' daughters.
The funnyman's spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com last week that the couple's decision to part way was mutual, adding: "Out of love and respect for one another we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together."
It is unclear if either Lawrence or his wife filed divorce papers. His spokesperson had no immediate comment.
Lawrence is known for his roles in movies such as "Bad Boys" and "Big Momma's House" as well as for his long-running 1990s sitcom "Martin," which still runs in syndication. He performs standup comedy around the country and recently filmed a CBS comedy pilot that also stars John Amos, Ethan Suplee, Sydney Park and P.J. Byrne.
