Mark Ruffalo is happy with his green, massively buff look as The Hulk in Joss Whedon's new superhero film "The Avengers," which apparently was largely thanks to the work of CGI and a top-notch costume and makeup team.
"I'm liking the muscled Mark," he told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I really didn't have to spend that much time in the gym, which was kind of perfect for me, actually."
Ruffalo previously starred in dramas such as "The Kids Are All Right," which earned him an Oscar nomination, and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and played Jennifer Garner's character's love interest in the romantic comedy "13 going On 30."
"The Avengers" marks the 44-year-old actor's first big action blockbuster. He is the third actor to portray the superhero and his alter ego, Bruce Banner, in a major movie.
"I've never done anything like this before," he told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "There's been a lot of talk of, 'Is it going to be any good, can Mark Ruffalo do it?' To see it kind of coming to life the way we kind of intended it to is very satisfying."
In "The Avengers," he teams up with Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., and various other Marvel Comics superheroes to try and stop the evil God Loki and his army. Their co-star, Scarlett Johansson, told OnTheRedCarpet.com that she is happy about having the "rare opportunity" to play the mercenary The Black Widow, a woman who stands on her own, rather than as a love interest or sidekick.
"The Avengers" also stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulder and Tom Hiddleston and is set for release in the United States on May 4. As of Tuesday, May 1, It has already made $218.2 million abroad.
