Skylar Laine may have lost "American Idol" but the country singer appears optimistic and is looking for new music career opportunities and ... love?
The 18-year-old Mississippi native was eliminated from the FOX singing competition show on Thursday, May 3, placing fifth place on the 11th season. She and the other top contestants used "American Idol"-branded Twitter accounts to interact with their fans and share information about themselves. Laine Tweeted in April that she is "obsessed" with NFL star Tim Tebow.
"I would send a message to Tim Tebow that said 'I love you' I think you're gorgeous and you should go out on a date with me,'" Laine said in a post-elimination video posted on RyanSeacrest.com.
Tebow, a former Denver Broncos quarterback who now plays for the New York Jets, has often been dubbed "God's quarterback" by the press and has a large fan following. The 24-year-old is the son of Baptist missionaries and a is outspoken about his faith.
In February, he met "American Idol" season 6 winner Jordin Sparks, who is also a devout Christian and whose father, Phillippi, is a retired football player who used to play for the New York Giants. Tebow Tweeted a photo of him and the 22-year-old pop star on February 3, saying: "Absolute pleasure meeting @JordinSparks! Awesome girl!"
Laine emerged as the token country singer on the current season of "American Idol," where contestants tend to adapt their performances to one genre of music in order to make themselves more marketable. She performed songs such as Jason Aldean's 2011 single "Tattoos on This Town" and "Gunpowder & Lead" by country star Miranda Lambert.
Laine said in the RyanSeacrest.com interview that she would like to one day perform a duet with Lambert, as well as with country star Justin Moore. She also added that she owns about 38 pairs of cowboy boots. She often wore several of them on "American Idol."
"I'm so happy that the South was rooting for me," Laine told MTV News. "Country fans were rooting for me. That's all I want. All I want is a country group. Winning would have been great, but I just want to make an album. I want people to buy it. I want to be on the radio. Miranda Lambert, my idol, didn't win 'Nashville Star.' She got third, and look at her now, winning everything, pretty much."
"Nashville Star" was a country music-themed reality show that aired between 2003 and 2008 on the USA Network and NBC. Lambert, then 21, competed on its debut season, which was won by Buddy Jewell. His debut album was certified Gold but his recent releases have not been as successful. Lambert went on to win a Grammy in 2010. Three of her albums have been certified Platinum.
The remaining four contestants on "American Idol" are Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips, who Seacrest had revealed last week to be a crush of his girlfriend, Julianne Hough.
There are three performance shows left until the season 11 finale. The theme for the episode set to air on Wednesday, May 9, is titled "California Dreamin.'"
The next day, the top three finalists will be announced and footage of themselves visiting their hometowns will be shown, following "American Idol" tradition. Also, season 7 winner David Cook is set to perform his new track "The Last Song I'll Write For you," while co-judge Jennifer Lopez will sing her new song "Dance Again."
Earlier this week, she announced that she plans to tour this summer with Enrique Iglesias and will bring along her boyfriend, choreographer and dancer Casper Smart, as well as her 4-year-old twins, Max and Emme (check out details and a video from the press conference).
