I-215 closed for weekend; Drivers warned

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

Drivers will have to take alternate routes until Monday at 6 a.m. But come Monday morning, commuters will see a big shift in the traffic lanes on the I-215 as they approach the 210 Freeway.

The closure is needed to reposition the concrete barriers currently in place to prepare for a new traffic pattern. Northbound 215 drivers who want to transition to the eastbound 210 will have to stay in the left hand lane only. The right lanes will take drivers north to the westbound 210.

Drivers in the area say they don't mind the traffic headaches because they're only temporary.

"I'm glad it's gonna be a lot wider and a lot bigger. It's been needed for a long time out here," said William Lopez of Perris.

The best advice for the weekend closure? Avoid the 215 if you can.

"The weekend actually affords us the best opportunity because the volumes are actually lower on weekends than they are doing the weekdays because of normal work commutes. But it will be a big headache if everybody chooses to still come this way," said Tim Watkins with the San Bernardino Associated Governments.
