Purse theft leads to chase, ends in crash in North Hills

NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES

Police said the suspect grabbed a woman's purse then jumped in a car with three others onboard and sped off. That's when the female victim and a man got in their own car and chased the suspect vehicle down. Officials said the cars were traveling about 60-70 mph eastbound on Plummer Street near Langdon Avenue.

The theft victim's car then collided with the suspect's car. The vehicles barreled through a light post and a fence. Emergency responders said one of the vehicles flipped several times before landing in Bennett Nursery.

Nursery owner Jim Bennett said police told him that a man was taking his girlfriend home. When she momentarily set her purse down on the street, the suspect swooped in to steal it.

In all, six people were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. They were all listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made. The purse theft and crash are under investigation.
