Police said they got a 911 call from the son, Daniel Pople, about 9 a.m. Friday saying he stabbed his mother and the family dog at their home in the 300 block of East Russell Street.
When officers arrived, they found the woman dead in the home. The dog was taken to the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for treatment.
The motive for the attack was unclear, but according to a neighbor, the family was strapped for money after the dead woman's husband died this past winter.
