Teen gang member charged for Santa Ana shooting

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Oswaldo Sotello of Santa Ana is being charged as an adult with one felony count of attempted murder and one felony count of street terrorism with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and criminal street gang activity.

Prosecutors allege Sotello was involved in a verbal altercation with a 16-year-old boy on the 900 block of Walnut Street at about 3 p.m. on April 27. During the confrontation, Sotello allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the chest.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police say the victim does not appear to be a gang member.

Santa Ana police arrested Sotello for the shooting last Thursday. If convicted, Sotello faces 40 years to life in state prison. He is being held on $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned on May 25.
