Chris Hemsworth of "Thor" has another reason to celebrate this weekend other than "The Avengers" continued box office success. The actor and his wife, Elsa Pataky, welcomed their first child on May 11.
Hemsworth confirmed the news of the baby girl's arrival to USA Today. The couple named the girl India.
"We love the country and love the name," 28-year-old Hemsworth told the newspaper. It is the first child for the couple.
Hemsworth married Pataky, a 35-year-old actress, in December 2010. Pataky's pregnancy was first announced in January.
Beyond "The Avengers," which will likely land at the top of the box office for the second weekend in a row, Hemsworth will also star in the upcoming film "Snow White and the Huntsman" opposite Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. That film hits theaters on June 1.
In "Snow White and the Huntsman," Stewart plays the heroine, while Theron portrays the Evil Queen. Snow White aims to defeat her and enlists the help of the Huntsman, played by Hemsworth.
The Australian-born actor is also the older brother of "Hunger Games" actor Liam Hemsworth.
Pataky recently appeared in the 2011 hit "Fast Five" alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, and also appeared in films such "Snakes on a Plane" and "Beyond Re-Animator."
