'Avengers' dominate box office, adding $100M

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES

The superhero blockbuster is now the first movie ever to pull in more than $100 million domestically in its second weekend. According to studio estimates, the film's domestic total is now at $373.2 million.

With $95.4 million more overseas, "The Avengers" lifted its international receipts to $628.9 million and a worldwide haul of just over $1 billion, only 19 days after it began rolling out in some markets.

The Marvel Studios hero mash-up includes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

The heroes join forces to save the world from Thor's evil brother, who wants to destroy all humankind.

Behind "Avengers," "Dark Shadows" finished a distant second with $28.8 million. "Think Like a Man" got the No. 3 spot, earning $6.3 million.

"The Hunger Games" and "The Lucky One" earned the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
