Friends' argument leads to hotel stabbing in Ontario

ONTARIO, Calif.

Ontario police officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the Ayres Suites Hotel on the 4300 block of East Mills Circle at about 11 p.m. Monday. Police arrived to find the suspect and the victim had fled the scene.

A 29-year-old Torrance man was located at a hospital after having been driven there by his girlfriend. He was treated for multiple stab wounds and was in critical condition Thursday. Officers contacted the victim in the hospital.

Ontario officers located and arrested Upland resident Tanner Maloncon, 29, the suspect who had fled the stabbing scene on foot. Maloncon was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center on a charge of attempted homicide. Maloncon was under supervision for a prior felony conviction, according to police.

Police said the victim and the suspect were close friends staying with their families at the hotel. An argument between the two broke out and Maloncon allegedly drew a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Ontario Police Department at (909) 986-6711, or Detective Dave Rowe at (909) 395-2749.
