Rare calico lobster almost eaten for dinner

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.

The lobster named Calvin was fished out of the waters in Maine. He turned up in a tank at a restaurant before being rescued.

The orange and black crustacean is now at the Biomes Center in North Kingstown, which has hands-on marine biology programs for schools.

Researchers say the mutation that causes Calvin's speckled shell only occurs in one out of every 30 million lobsters.
