A cargo ship on the L.A. Harbor was evacuated Friday afternoon after a gas leak was reported, a city fire official said.

The investigation began just before 2 p.m. in the 700 block of East New Dock Street at Henry Ford Avenue, according to Matt Spence of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Hazmat and 25 fire fighters were on-scene as the investigation was conducted.

A large container was found with an unknown gas emanating from it aboard the vessel, Spence said. The ship was evacuated as a precautionary measure. There were no initial reports of injuries.
