Jordin Sparks performed a tribute to her "Sparkle" co-star Whitney Houston alongside John Legend at the 2012 Billboard Awards on May 20 and on May 21, a new single featuring Houston and Sparks hit the web.
During her tribute, Legend and Sparks sang a medley of Houston's hit songs "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Will Always Love You." Houston was posthumously awarded the Millennium Award and her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, accepted it on her behalf.
"I am overwhelmed by the kind words about the tribute last night! Thank you," Sparks Tweeted on May 21. "I was a ball of every emotion possible! #whitney#celebrate."
Sparks also Tweeted a link to a new song, which can be heard below, featured on the "Sparkle" soundtrack. The song, titled "Celebrate," includes vocals from Sparks and the legendary singer.
The song debuted on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio show on May 21 and was produved by R. Kelly just days before the singer's death in February.
The film marks "American Idol" season 6 winner Jordin Sparks' big-screen acting debut and is a remake of a 1976 flick. Sparks, a 22-year-old pop star, plays Sparkle Williams, a girl from Detroit who forms a singing group with her sisters. The three deal with fame and the dark side of the music industry, including problems with drugs. Houston plays their mother.
Houston, who made her own movie debut with the 1992 film "The Bodyguard," had struggled with substance abuse for years and died at age 48 on February 11, on the eve of the Grammys.
The "Sparkle" reboot is Houston's fourth film. Her third was the 1997 television movie "Cinderella." "Sparkle" also features new music from Houston, Sparks and fellow cast member Cee Lo Green, who also plays a singer.
"Sparkle" also stars Carmen Ejogo and "Gossip Girl" star Tika Sumpter as Sparks' characters' sisters, Mike Epps and Derek Luke. The movie is set to hit theaters on August 17.
