The trailer for the highly anticipated Leonardo DiCaprio film, "The Great Gatsby," has been released.

The movie is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name. The film stars DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, the narrator.

Carraway plays a Midwesterner who moves to Long Island and finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Gatsby. He is eventually drawn into Gatsby's social circle, and becomes a witness to obsession and tragedy.

Luhrmann is also the director of the 2001 musical film "Moulin Rouge!," which stars Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. He also directed DiCaprio in the 1996 movie "Romeo + Juliet."

This isn't the first time the book has been adapted for the big screen, with a 1974 version that starred Mia Farrow and Robert Redford, and a 2000 television version that starred Mira Sorvino and Paul Rudd.
