New promotional posters for the highly anticipated summer film "The Dark Knight Rises" were released this week including character posters featuring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy as well as banner posters showing some friction between Batman (Bale) and the film's villain Bane (Hardy).

The images can be seen below and the posters were initially featured on the movie's Facebook page. Hathaway is featured in a black skin-tight catsuit to play Selina Kyle, Catwoman's alter ego. Viewers also get more detailed shots of Batman's costume update and a closer look at Hardy's look as Bane.

The banners, which first surfaced on Movies.com, feature the characters in action with Hathaway riding a souped-up motorcycle with guns blazing, Bane in the middle of an armed crowd standing on top of the Batmobile from the second film, Batman standing on top of a Gotham police car and Batman and Bane getting ready for an epic fight.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is the final Batman film by Christopher Nolan, who kicked off the trilogy with "Batman Begins" in 2005. It is also the last film for Bale as Batman. The movie stars series newcomer Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays a Gotham City cop named John Blake.

Hardy plays the masked villain Bane, an escaped convict who gains superhuman strength due to a series of drug experiments. In the DC comic books, Bane breaks Batman's back after attacking him in the Batcave, leaving the superhero a paraplegic.

Oscar winner Marion Cotillard plays Miranda Tate, a board member of Wayne Enterprises who is eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne, Batman's alter ego, resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham." Both she and Gordon-Levitt starred in Nolan's 2010 film "Inception." In the trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises," Tate and Wayne have an intimate moment.

Liam Neeson confirmed in March that he will reprise his role of Ra's al Ghul in the new movie. "The Dark Knight Rises" is set for release on July 20, 2012.
