This week at the movies, there's a fictional nightmare in the aftermath of a very real nuclear disaster, a comedy about a boy's search for love at summer camp, and the suit and sunglass-wearing alien hunters are back in "Men in Black III."
Will Smith returns as Agent J and is sent on a mission to save the planet and his partner Agent K, played by Tommy Lee Jones. J must travel back in time to find a young K, played by Josh Brolin, to make things right and save the future of humankind.
The Reel Deal: You won't need to be neuralized, but you won't be dazzled either, "Men in Black 3" is OK, and in this summer of sci-fi, OK is not good enough. I'm out.
The aftermath of a nuclear disaster is the backdrop for the thriller "Chernobyl Diaries."
In the latest movie from the makers of "Paranormal Activity," we follow a group of young tourists who decide to visit the town that was once home to the workers at the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The tourists thought the town had been deserted after the disaster, but soon they discover they are not alone.
The Reel Deal: From the guy who can't seem to afford a tri-pod (or a theater to show us the movie for that matter), "Chernobyl Diaries" looks like it should be tossed in the reactor. I'm out.
In limited release this week, if sci-fi or horror isn't for you, why not head to summer camp? Director Wes Anderson takes us to New England in 1965 to follow the hilarious hunt for two 12-year-olds who run away together in the wilderness in "Moonrise Kingdom." "Mighty Fine" tells the story of the challenges that arise after a Brooklyn father moves his family and business to New Orleans. And "The Intouchables" tells the true story of how a wealthy, physically-disabled French man forms an unlikely bond with the good-humored, black Muslim ex-con hired as his caretaker.
