Horse airlifted to safety in Lake View Terrace

LAKE VIEW TERRACE, LOS ANGELES

The horse and its owner were in a ravine near Hansen Dam Aquatic Center when the horse got stuck in the sand. Los Angeles city firefighters, animal rescue, and a vet were called to the scene.

With their help, the horse was tranquilized, carefully tethered and pulled ashore. A Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter then airlifted the horse out of the ravine to safety.

"Extremely lucky horse. It went extremely well, again, considering the size of the horse," said veterinarian Dr. Gabriela Bamert.

The 2,200-pound horse, named Duke, is 20 years old. The vet said he'll be sore and will need some medication, but he should be fine.
