Tens of thousands of people were expected to gather along San Francisco's waterfront to celebrate one of the world's most recognizable landmarks.
The festivities are set to conclude with a big fireworks display Sunday night. The California Highway Patrol urged those attending the celebration to use public transportation due to the heavy volume of traffic.
The bridge, which connects San Francisco to Marin County, opened in 1937. Since then, more than two-billion vehicles have crossed the 1.7-mile-long bridge.
