6-year-old youngest Nat'l Spelling Bee competitor

MCLEAN, Va.

Lori Anne Madison is the youngest person ever to qualify for the competition. Madison, who is home-schooled, beat out 21 other kids in her county to advance to the national competition.

Starting Tuesday she'll be putting her skills to the test against kids twice her age. However, all the buzz about being in the bee hasn't gone to her head.

"Honestly it's not as big, and I'm not really excited like, 'I'm going to the National Spelling Bee!'" said Madison. "I'm more like, 'Uh, it's fine.'"

Madison says when she's not spelling sophisticated words, she enjoys playing "Angry Birds" and debating her parents.

And good luck to the Southern California students from schools in Tarzana, Diamond Bar and Huntington Beach who are also in the competition.
