OTRC: Adam Levine talks love life, explains 'the reason I was promiscuous'

Adam Levine talks about his contestant, Javier Colon, and Colon's performance with the legendary Stevie Nicks.

Adam Levine recently spoke out about his personal romantic life and gave a possible reason for his self-proclaimed promiscuity - his love for women.

"There's two kinds of men," the 33-year-old told Details magazine in an interview published in the magazines June 2012 issue. "There are men who are (expletive) misogynist pigs, and then there are men who just really love women, who think they're the most amazing people in the world. And that's me. Maybe the reason I was promiscuous, and wanted to sleep with a lot of them, is that I love them so much."

Levine is the front man of pop rock band Maroon 5 as well as the outspoken judge on the hit NBC hit talent show "The Voice." The crooner has been romantically linked to a number of women, including his most recent girlfriend, Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna. The pair announced in April 2012 that they had split in what they called "an amicable and supportive manner," after two years of dating.

At the time of the interview, Levine and Vyalitsyna were still together and the singer explained to the magazine why he likes to keep his love life private.

"Publicizing a relationship is dicey to me," he said. "I don't think any relationship responds well to pressure. We're both under so much pressure to begin with. Why not keep this beautiful island of distraction to ourselves?"

Levine has also been rumored to have been romantically linked to Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst, Maria Sharipova and Paris Hilton following his three-year tour supporting his 2002 album "Songs about Jane."

The musician, who is dubbed "The New King of Pop" on the cover of the magazine, went on to explain how while he is outspoken and independent, he doesn't enjoy being alone.

"I'm fiercely independent, but I'm also terrified of being alone," Levine added. "I travel in a pack. I like to be surrounded, not just with my boys, but with family, too."

Levine recently debuted his music video "Payphone," and surprised fans when he sported a rugged and bloody look. The song is the first single from his rock band Maroon 5's new album, "Overexposed," which is the group's fourth major record in almost two years.

In the opening scene for the video, Levine can be seen under a freeway stranded with only a payphone at his side. The singer and attractive brunette then get into all kinds of hijinks, including a robbery, a car-jacking and a high-speed car chase. The villains chasing Levine in the video are, of course, his own Maroon 5 band mates. Wiz Khalifa, who is featured on the single, also stars in the clip, performing his verse (Watch below).
