Echo Park double stabbing surveillance video released

ECHO PARK, LOS ANGELES

Police said two young men were stabbed near the corner of Echo Park Avenue and Montana Street just after midnight last Thursday.

The stabbing was a result of an argument that occurred outside of a neighborhood bar.

The surveillance video shows three men walking down the street, when one of them runs back to stab the two victims. The black and white video is grainy and a description of the suspect was hard to glean. Officials described him only as either white or Latino.

The men were not seriously injured. One was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, and the other refused medical attention.

At least one of the attackers reportedly used homophobic slurs during the attack. Police are treating the incident as a possible hate crime.

"There were some statements made prior to the stabbing, and those statements, they just fall into the protocol to take our investigation in that direction. Whether that's exactly what happened, we're not 100 percent sure if it was motivated by hate or prejudice," said LAPD detective Jeana Franco.

If you have any information about this incident, you're urged to call Los Angeles police at (877) LAPD-24-7 or (877) 527-3247.
