Lucy Hale of "Pretty Little Liars" fame is ready to take on the music world.
The 22-year-old actress has signed a record deal with Hollywood Records, the company announced in a statement on June 12. The record label is owned by the Walt Disney Company which also owns OnTheRedCarpet.com and ABC Family, where Hale appears in "Pretty Little Liars."
The actress, who is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, has showed off her singing talents on television before. When she was 14, Hale competed on the reality show "American Juniors" in 2003 and finished in the top 5.
Hale also recently appeared in the film "A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song" where her character, Katie, provided the singing voice for her stepsister who scores a record contract because she took credit for Katie's demo recording.
"I'm overjoyed and honored to become a member of the Hollywood Records family," Hale said in a statement, "I've admired the careers they've made and can't wait to see how my musical path is paved out."
Hale also teased on Twitter that her album will have a different sound than what fans might expect. "Its going to be diff from anything you've ever heard from the label and not what you'd expect from me," Hale wrote on June 12. "Thanks for the support!"
The company's statement appears to imply that Hale's album might have a country sound. "While Hale appreciates all musical genres, it's her country roots that speak to her heart and will mark the direction of her music," the statement says.
The record is set to record later this year and is aiming to be released in 2013.
Hale has had roles on "The O.C.," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Privileged" and has appeared in films like "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" and "Scream 4." She currently stars as Aria Montgomery on "Pretty Little Liars," which just kicked off its third season last week.
