Fatally shot pursuit suspect was apartment mgr.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES

The suspect, an apartment building manger, was later shot and killed by police at the end of a chase on the 170 freeway. He was identified Friday as Oscar Sermeno, 58.

Sermeno lived and managed an apartment complex at 7358 Tujunga Avenue. He reportedly lived there about 20 years. The shooting took place in the garage of the next-door apartment complex.

Lalo Padillo, 41, and son Geraldo Padilla, 19, were fatally shot after Sermeno allegedly argued with the two. The two men were working on a plumbing project in the garage when the argument occurred.

Police say Sermeno shot both men, went next door, got in a car and fled the scene.

Responding officers pursued Sermeno. The pursuit ended on the southbound Burbank Boulevard off-ramp exit of the 170 Freeway. Police say Sermeno got out of his car and pointed something at officers. Officers then shot him. Sermeno died at the scene.
