Escaped inmate located in Mexico, taken into custody

DEVORE, SAN BERNARDINO

Steven Gallagher, 24, escaped from the San Bernardino County jail on Tuesday, along with 23-year-old Jonathan Mundo.

Sheriff's officials say Mundo and 20-year-old Kenneth Gillis, who is suspected of driving the two inmates from the area after the escape, were arrested on Wednesday.

During the search for Gallagher, investigators received information that the escapee may have left the country. U.S. Marshals contacted Mexican authorities, who then located Gallagher in Tijuana. He was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials and released to San Bernardino Sheriff's investigators on Thursday night.

Gallagher was booked at West Valley Detention Center and was being held without bail. He's accused of robbery, conspiracy and assault with a deadly weapon.
