Canada mall roof collapse leaves 1 dead, 9 missing

ELLIOT LAKE, Ontario

A portion of the roof that serves as a parking area for the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake in northern Ontario crumbled down into an area near the food court, leaving behind a gaping hole which was 39 feet by 79 feet. A couple of cars fell through the hole. The collapse also downed hydro lines and triggered a gas leak.

More than a day after the collapse, rescue crews have been unable to reach the victim because the structure is too unstable. But images taken with the camera show a hand and foot in the dusty debris.

Officials said 22 people survived with minor injuries, but nine others were still reported missing.
