Russell Brand will take his debaucherous sense of humor to the small screen this week, premiering his FX comedy series, "Brand X with Russell Brand."
On the series, which will air in the 11 p.m. timeslot, the 36-year-old English comedian and actor will combine stand-up comedy with audience participation and divulge his opinions on Americans and pop culture.
"This country has been incredibly generous and kind to me," Brand said in a statement, according to the Canadian Press. "So it's not like a finger-pointing exercise. Many of the aspects of American culture that come under the greatest criticism from abroad are certainly not a peninsula that a British person could arrogantly judge from, given that we did our fair share of colonialism, didn't we?"
FX ordered six episodes of "Brand X," which was taped in front of a live studio audience, who often become the butt of Brand's mostly well-intentioned jokes.
"I don't see myself or my role as a malevolent jester attacking people who are already being attacked," he said. "All I want is for people to feel better than they do now ... and as long as I stay in alignment with that, then I'm served by great forces."
Brand and 27-year-old pop singer Katy Perry reached a divorce settlement in February. The divorce is expected to be finalized in July.
During a May episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Brand said that he still loved Perry and was happy they got married.
"Me and Katy got divorced. I still, love her as a human being. But, sometimes when you're in a relationship I suppose it doesn't work out, does it? But that doesn't mean I regret it or anything," Brand told DeGeneres . "I was very happy to be married with her. She's such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her."
The outspoken comedian is known for playing rock star Aldous Snow in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him To the Greek" and also stars in the new musical film "Rock of Ages" with Tom Cruise.
Brand hosted the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on June 3, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Brand previously hosted MTV's other famous annual ceremony, the Video Music Awards, in 2008 and 2009.
It was at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards that Brand met Perry. They were married on October 23, 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India, where Brand also proposed to the singer.
"Brand X with Russell Brand" premieres on Thursday, June 28 at 11 p.m. on FX. Watch previews below.
