Rapper 50 Cent was recently hospitalized after being injured in a car crash on a New York highway.
According to the 36-year-old's website, ThisIs50.com, a Mack truck rear-ended a bullet-proof SUV carrying the rapper as they drove on the Long Island Expressway, aka Interstate 495 that is often dubbed the LIE, late on Monday, June 25. Photos of 50 Cent lying on a stretcher, wearing a neck brace, and shots of the damaged vehicles were posted there as well.
The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was treated for minor injuries to his neck and back at New York Hospital Queens and then released on Tuesday morning, The New York Times quoted his spokesperson as saying.
His website said the truck driver "reportedly told police his loaded shifted" and that he "lost control of the vehicle" before it crashed into the rapper's.
The New York Daily News quoted police sources as saying that 50 Cent was a passenger in a 2005 Chevy Suburban and that it was rear-ended by a 1998 Mack truck as it approached an exit around 11:10 p.m. on Monday. The rapper's 51-year-old driver was also hospitalized for minor injuries, they added.
The 61-year-old truck driver who hit the rapper's vehicle told police that he was unable to stop after traffic suddenly slowed in front of him, the newspaper said, adding that no arrests were made.
In May, 50 Cent alarmed his fans by sharing photos of himself in a hospital bed while holding stuffed animals."I'm in the hospital but my gangsta grillz LOST TAPE is done so it will be out on time," 50 Cent Tweeted, referring to a mix tape that was later released on May 22. He added later, "I don't want to go into surgery."
50 Cent didn't disclose his ailment, but record producer DJ Drama told XXL magazine that the rapper was suffering from a "stomach virus."
50 Cent has not commented about his car crash on Twitter. On Monday, hours beforehand, he posted a link to his new music video, "Complicated." (Warning: Contains explicit language.) The song is from the rapper's recent mix tape.
He is also preparing to release his fifth studio album, "5 (Murder by Numbers)," on July 3, three days before his 37th birthday.
