According to Seth MacFarlane, Mila Kunis is a rare type of woman, and not just because of her stunning looks.
The 29-year-old actress and international sex symbol has provided the voice of Meg Griffin on his hit FOX animated sitcom "Family Guy" since the middle of its second season in 1999 and can be seen in his new R-rated movie "Ted."
"She's the hottest thing in the world right now, 'cause she's gorgeous and she can do comedy with the best of them," MacFarlane told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "She's done so many great Meg episodes on 'Family Guy' and generally, when a girl looks like that, she's not that funny and Mila is - she's hilarious. So that was a great thing and I like working with people that I know and people that I have a preexisting relationship with."
Kunis told OnTheRedCarpet.com there is no one she trusts more when it comes to showcasing humor on screen than McFarlane.
"Ted" hits theaters on Friday, June 29 and marks MacFarlane's big-screen directorial debut. Kunis plays Lori, the live-in girlfriend of Mark Wahlberg's character, John. He has an obnoxious friend, Ted, who happens to be an actual teddy bear. The animated character talks smack, smokes pot, snorts cocaine and parties with prostitutes. His behavior puts quite a damper on the pair's relationship.
"If had done this movie six or seven years ago, I probably would have to use a hand puppet or something," MacFarlane said, regarding the film's technology.
"With movies like 'Avatar' and 'Lord of the Rings,' the motion-capture technology had been perfected so that I was able to create a character like Ted that would, in the final product, in the final edit of the movie, be something that was so life-like and so realistic that people would forget they were watching an animated character and feel like these are just two guys," he said.
In one scene, John has to fight with Ted. Wahlberg told OnTheRedCarpet.com that it "not fun" to film the brawl, adding: "I felt like an idiot, kind of flailing around on the ground."
While he and Kunis had a preexisting working relationship, MacFarlane met Wahlberg for the first time when he was casting actors for the movie, which was first announced to the press in December 2010. That month, Wahlberg's movie "The Fighter" was released. It earned two Oscars for supporting actors Melissa Leo and Christian Bale. MacFarlane's agent also represented Wahlberg and set up a meeting for them.
The two celebrities also have another thing in common - they are both from East Coast and sport accents. MacFarlane was born in Connecticut, while Wahlberg hails from Boston. "Ted" takes place in the latter city.
"I had the thought in my head prior to this that this was the guy," MacFarlane said about Wahlberg. "He was a great guy, we hit it off and he was the one guy really that I could think of who was able to first of all be hilarious but also deliver the realism and make this relationship real and believable and do the more dramatic side of it as well. "
