Long Beach 710 Freeway to expand to 14 lanes

LONG BEACH, Calif.

The $5 billion project would widen the mainline freeway to five lanes in each direction and put a separate four-lane trucks-only freeway on the side.

That truck highway would sit next to the 710 on the banks on the Los Angeles River from the Port of Long Beach almost all the way to L.A.

Approximately 200 homes would need to be torn down for the project, depending on final interchange designs, and nearly 200 businesses would also be ousted.
