Kristen Stewart starred in first ad for Balenciaga's Florabotanica perfume, something which is completely new for the self-proclaimed tomboy.
"On a base level, the reason you want to wear a fragrance is because you want to smell attractive," Stewart told Women's Wear Daily of the collaboration. "That in itself is a pretty mature idea, especially considering the teenager I was. I was never the one wearing my mom's perfume and trying to be sexy. I was like hanging out with my brothers and doing the opposite of that."
The actress, who never wore perfume before appearing in the ad, said that she was really glad that she actually liked the scent.
"I'm very lucky that I like the fragrance, because I would have done anything with [Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere]... and I'm a terrible liar," Stewart told Women's Wear Daily."There is something natural about it. It's very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it - considering that I've never worn a scent - it kind of puts you on this level of, like, 'Whoa, check me out.'"
Stewart, who became a brand ambassador for Balenciaga in January, told the trade magazine that she wasn't sure what to expect posing for a perfume ad, since they most often show half-naked women in sultry poses. The actress took the challenge to be an "art project."
"Even though, yes, it's an ad and we're selling a fragrance - I don't want to sound pretentious - but I want to be part of this art project," she said. "I want to be around Nicolas when he gets excited about fabric. I want to see the look on his face when he sees me put on a dress."
The 22-year-old actress is best known for her role as Bella in the "Twilight" vampire films and has also appeared in "In The Land of Women," "Adventureland" and most recently, "Snow White and The Huntsman".
Stewart's next film, "On The Road," is expected to be released in the United States later this year and also stars Kirsten Dunst, Tom Sturridge, Viggo Mortensen, Elisabeth Moss, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi,Terrance Howard, Garett Hedlund and Sam Riley. The movie is based on the Beat novel of the same name by Jack Kerouac. Stewart plays Marylou in the film, which features her first nude scenes.
Stewart is currently working on Nick Cassavetes "Cali," which follows a couple living in the valley, who get involved with "really strange people." For the world, the pale actress will get tan and blonde and told WWD, "I'm going to get into the best shape of my life... I'm going to look like a stripper. I'm going to look like a porn star."
