OTRC: Mel Gibson's estranged step-mother files for a restraining order against him

Mel Gibson's estranged step-mother Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson has filed for a temporary restraining order against the actor, OnTheRedCarpet.com has confirmed.

In the papers, which were filed at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles on July 2, Joye claimed that Gibson screamed at her so closely that she could "feel his spit hitting [her] face" and threatened to kick her out of the house she lives in, which is owned by a charity run by the actor.

"Mel's bullying of this soon-to-be octogenarian is deeply disturbing given that she has been a loving and loyal spouse to Mel's father... for over a decade," reads the petition. "Now Mel has sunken to new lows over the last year by committing several acts of domestic violence against his 78-year-old stepmother."

Joye also said that she believes that Gibson and his sister Maura Dunne manipulated their 93-year-old father John Hutton Gibson into filing for a divorce after ten years of marriage. John Hutton filed for divorce last month and requested that Joye pay his legal fees and spousal support.

"For reasons that Joye does not comprehend and cannot get to the bottom of until this court issues restraining orders against Mel, Hutton Gibson filed a petition for marital dissolution (and) Joye believes Mel and/or his sister, Maura Dunne, manipulated (her husband) into filing the divorce action," the court papers continue. "The filing for divorce has left Joye completely baffled."

Part of Gibson's contention with his step-mother is reportedly her resistance to having John Hutton undergo experimental medical treatment for an undisclosed illness, according to TMZ.

Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson is scheduled to appear in court on July 25.

Mel Gibson has struggled to resurrect his career following a 2006 drunk driving arrest, during which he ranted against Jews. Gibson issued an apology after the infamous incident, during which he allegedly said: "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." He pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and was sentenced to three years of probation and underwent alcohol rehabilitation.

Gibson was also charged with misdemeanor battery over a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. Gibson made a plea deal and was sentenced to informal probation for 36 months and was also ordered to undergo counseling for anger management and domestic violence prevention, which he completed in March. If he violates his probation, Gibson could face up to a year in prison.
