4000 pounds of fireworks seized in East Los Angeles

EAST LOS ANGELES

The East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station Summer Enforcement Team received a tip that illegal fireworks were being stored and sold at a heavily populated business establishment on the 700 block of South Kern Avenue in East L.A.

Deputies increased patrols in the area and observed several boxes of the fireworks in front and behind of the building.

Deputies detained the building owner during the investigation. East L.A. resident Victor Nolasco, 34, was cited and released for possession of illegal fireworks.

The county fire department transported and disposed of the fireworks. The street value of the fireworks was estimated at $10,000.

According to the sheriff's department, Monday's seizure was the third major seizure this week, accumulating 20,000 total pounds seized during the week.

Members of the public are reminded about the seriousness of possessing illegal fireworks and are encouraged to report such activity to their local law enforcement agency.
