Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis joined director Sam Raimi at Comic-Con in San Diego on July 13 for the "Oz: The Great and Powerful" panel. Williams dished to reporters before the panel that she felt very lucky to be a part of the production and considered it a family film.
"I felt very lucky to be included in that group and also to put ... it's nice to put a little good back into the world," she said in an interview provided by Walt Disney Pictures, the film's studio. "I think it really is, at its heart, a family movie and I was excited to be a part of that."
The trailer for the film debuted on July 12 and had the media buzzing over the colorful film. "Oz: The Great and Powerful" stars James Franco, Kunis, Williams and Rachel Weisz and is adapted from the L. Frank Baum novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."
The film tells the origins of the Wizard of Oz, who is a character named Oscar Diggs and is played by Franco. Diggs is a small-time circus magician who is transported from Kansas to the world of Oz after a tornado. Once there he meets three witches.
Kunis plays the witch Theodora, while British actress Rachel Weisz from the "Mummy" movies portrays her character's sister, Evanora. Michelle Williams plays Glinda, the Good Witch.
"I didn't think I would be able to see and touch the world as I was in the scene," Williams said about the gearing up for the CGI world of Oz. "But they went to great lengths and they built up ... you know, a lot of what you see in the movie are actual sets they built. So we were able to sort of move in these worlds."
"Your imagination is always a part of your work but you didn't have to stretch it quite in the way that you thought that they would," she added. "It's very important to Sam [Raimi] that his actors feel like they're at home and that Glinda's castle is as natural as my apartment."
The film also features Zach Braff, Abigail Spencer and Bruce Campbell.
