The "Iron Man 3" panel not only revealed some new details about the upcoming film, but also Marvel's plans for their next phase of films, including one for "Ant-Man."

Robert Downey Jr. was in attendance at the panel on July 14 and made an entrance by dancing through the aisles of 6,000 fans to "All My Love" by Luther Vandross. The video can be seen below. He was joined at the panel by Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige.

"Iron Man 3" is due out on May 3, 2013 and the panel showed a clip of Tony Stark's latest Iron Man suit and new cast member Sir Ben Kingsley as the villain Mandarin. The film will also feature newcomers Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, along with the return of Gwyneth Paltrow as Stark's assistant / love interest Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan.

Favreau previously directed the first two "Iron Man" movies, but stepped back and served as an executive producer on the latest installment. The new film will be directed by Shane Black, who previously directed "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which starred Downey Jr.

Black also wrote the screenplay for "Lethal Weapon" and its first sequel, "Last Action Hero" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight." He will be collaborating on the script for "Iron man 3" with Drew Pearce.

"We like the idea of just this guy and his gal Pepper and his pal Rhodey (Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes) and really, really interesting new threat," Downey told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the event about the character.

He later added about the new movie, "It just feels right and there's going to be a bunch of surprises. By the time people are seeing footage and we're done shooting this turkey, it's going to be real exciting."

Downey Jr. also said he wished he could walk around at Comic-Con, but being a celebrity - especially one in a blockbuster super hero movie - hindered that experience.

"I was just here to geek out and go around and fill those oversized bags with stuff," Downey told reporters. "They said, 'You know, we have a mask for you,' and I thought it just seemed a little pretentious to wear an Iron Man mask and walk the floor."

Don Cheadle also told us the newest film is "grittier."

"It's a little grittier. To me when you read the script, it kind of feels more like the first one in terms of the level of threat that they're dealing with, that feels like it could be kind of a world war," he said.

Later on in the panel, Feige announced other upcoming Marvel movies, including "Thor: The Dark World," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Ant Man."

Director Edgar Wright made a surprise appearance at the panel, according to The Associated Press, to show his test shots for the big-screen adaptation of "Ant-Man."

"I can reveal that Ant-Man has been here the whole day," Wright said of the superhero. "In fact, he was here to spy on the 'Pacific Rim' panel."

The new "Thor" film is expected to hit theaters on November 8, 2013, while the "Captain America" sequel is scheduled for April 4, 2014.

"Iron Man 3" is produced by Disney's Marvel Studios unit. Disney is the parent company of OnTheRedCarpet.com.
