The first glimpses of "Man of Steel," the latest film to feature the story of Superman, hit the web on Saturday, July 21, in the form of two teaser trailers.
While the footage in the two teasers are identical, with scenes of Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) hitch hiking and working on a fishing boat, the voiceovers are different. One features the voice of Kevin Costner, who plays Kent's adoptive father Jonathan Kent, while the other features the voice of Russell Crowe, who plays Kent's biological father Jor-El. Both trailers can be seen below.
In Costner's voice over, Jonathan seems to imply that Clark Kent has a choice about his destiny.
"You're not just anyone. One day, you're going to have to make a choice. You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad ... is gonna change the world," Pa Kent says.
Meanwhile, Russell Crowe's Jor-El seems more confident that his son will become a force of good on earth.
"You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They'll race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time you will help them accomplish wonders."
There are no shots in the teaser that reveal other characters in the film but there is one solid shot of Superman charging up the sky in the iconic suit.
The movie is directed by Zack Snyder and is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2013. It stars Amy Adams as his alter ego Clark Kent's love interest and co-worker, Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as the villain General Zod, Warner Bros. Pictures said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com in August 2011. The statement was also the first time the studio sent out a teaser image of Superman's suit.
Diane Lane will play Clark's adoptive mother Martha Kent and Julia Ormond will play his birth mother, Lor-Van. Former "Law & Order: SVU" actor Christopher Meloni has been cast as Colonel Hardy and Laurence Fishburne, known for films such as "The Matrix" trilogy, plays Perry White, editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet newspaper.
Christopher Nolan, director of the new "Batman" films, including "The Dark Knight Rises," is also a part of the "Superman" reboot. He and his writing partner, David S. Goyer, have penned the script for "Man of Steel." Nolan is also on board as a producer.
