"The Bachelorette" star Emily Maynard visited "Good Morning America" and revealed the reason she paused when Jef Holm proposed during the reality show's finale.
"I've taken a lot of heat for it," Maynard told "Good Morning America" anchor Lara Spencer on Monday, July 23. "Well, I mean it was kind of a surprise because we'd never really talked about an engagement, even though I should have known. But really, I just wanted to soak in the moment and like really make a decision from my heart and just take in the moment and remember it."
Thankfully for Holm, the reality star said yes, but he was pretty nervous during the prolonged silence.
"Those were the longest few moments of my life, I feel like I was down there forever, but it was a big decision and I hadn't told anyone that I was going to propose, including her - so it was a shock to her totally," Holm, 28, told "GMA."
When asked why Maynard believed her engagement was the real thing when so many "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" proposals have ended badly, she told the morning news show that the relationship was totally different from her previous ones.
"I think that our [relationship] is going to work because we really have become immediate best friends," Maynard said. "I feel so comfortable around him and it's different than any relationship I've ever been in, so hopefully the outcome will be different too."
Maynard, 26, has previously been engaged twice - to Brad Womack on season 15 of "The Bachelor" and to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, who died in a 2004 plane crash. She is a full-time mother to her and Hendrick's 7-year-old daughter Ricki.
Holm, a social entrepreneur and skateboarder, said that he planned to move from Utah to Charlotte, North Carolina to be with his new fiance and her daughter.
"I'm going to move to Charlotte, but I am going to get my own place there and we're going to combine our lives - I'm going to hang out with Ricki all the time and become a carpool dad," Holm said. "We're just going to live our lives together and get accustomed to each other and plan a wedding and then when we get married, move in together and figure out where we want to be as a family."
While the pair has yet to decide on a wedding date, Maynard has begun looking for a wedding dress for the big day.
"I'm a girl to a fault, so I've been looking up dresses and places online and buying every wedding magazine in the grocery store, but we're just kind of taking it day by day right now."
In the season finale, which aired on Sunday, July 22, Maynard chose between Holm and race car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. Before the day of the proposal, Maynard told Luyendyk that she had more confidence in Holm.
In May, Maynard told OnTheRedCarpet.com that Jef had the best sense of humor and the best mind out of all the contestants on the show. She also said Arie had the nicest eyes and, along with Jef, was one of the silliest contestants.
