LOS ANGELES

Everett died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles after a year-and-a-half-long battle with lung cancer. The blue-eyed actor made his mark in TV beginning in 1969, playing Dr. Joe Gannon for seven seasons on "Medical Center." The role earned him Golden Globe nominations in 1971 and 1973.

Everett's career spanned more than 40 years, including a role in the 2001 David Lynch film, "Mulholland Drive." Everett most recently appeared on the TV shows "Castle" and "Supernatural."

He is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren. He was married to actress Shelby Grant for 45 years until her death last year.
