Kristen Stewart has issued a public apology to Robert Pattinson for her "momentary indiscretion" after reportedly having a fling.
The 22-year-old actress reportedly cheated on her "Twilight Saga" co-star and boyfriend with Rupert Sanders, the 41-year-old director of her recently released film "Snow White and the Huntsman."
"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," Stewart said in a statement obtained by People magazine on Wednesday, July 25.
Sanders is married to model Liberty Ross, 33, who portrayed Stewart's mother, Queen Eleanor in "Snow White and the Huntsman." The couple has two young children - Skyla and Tennyson. Sanders, who is English, started out directing commercials. "Snow White and the Huntsman" is his first feature film.
Us Weekly claims to have photos of Stewart and Sanders together and the story is the cover of the magazine's latest issue. The photos were taken in Los Angeles on July 17.
After news of the affair surfaced on July 24, Ross Tweeted, "Wow." Shortly after, she deleted her Twitter account.
"I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family," Sanders told People magazine in a statement. "My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
A source told People magazine that Stewart and Sanders were not having an on-going affair, "It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice."
Both Stewart and Pattinson recently appeared together at Comic-Con in San Diego in mid-July for a "Twilight Saga" event. The couple have been seen getting cozy at red carpet premieres and have been rumored to be dating since the first film in the series.
"Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," the final installment in the hit vampire romance saga, hits theaters on November 16. Stewart's character, Bella, is a vampire, having been turned into one by her husband Edward, played by Pattinson, to save her life after she gives birth to their daughter, Renesmee.
Back in May, Sanders spoke to OnTheRedCarpet.com about casting Stewart to play Snow White in "Snow White and the Huntsman."
"We looked at a lot of people who weren't known and then we started meeting more known actors," Sanders told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith, regarding the casting of Stewart. "I think when we met Kristen, we all just looked at each other and went, 'This is the girl,' because obviously, when you're looking at performances, you're looking at a performance, not the person."
It is unclear how news of the affair will affect "Snow White and the Huntsman 2," which was reportedly going ahead with Stewart and Sanders attached.
