Jonathan Rhys Meyers is set to star in a new NBC series, "Dracula," which has been officially picked up.

Meyers, 34, is known for playing the dominant King Henry VIII on the popular Showtime series "The Tudors." NBC announced on Tuesday that it has ordered 10 episodes of "Dracula," a new drama series, and confirmed the actor's casting.

The show introduces the gothic vampire as he arrives in London. He poses as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier, all while falling hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.

The show is from the producers of the Emmy-award winning show "Downton Abbey," and is a version of the classic Bram Stoker novel. The series is expected to premiere sometime next season.

In June, it was announced that the network would also be debuting another new show, "Hannibal," starring Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter. The show received a 13-episode order from NBC and is also expected to premiere sometime next season.

Meyers is also known for his work in films such as "Match Point," "Mission: Impossible III" and "August Rush."
