AMC's thriller series 'The Killing' has been canceled after two seasons, the network announced on Friday, July 27.

"After much deliberation, we've come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season," the network said in a statement on Friday. "AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from show runner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast."

The detective series, which is based on a Danish series of the same name, starred Mireille Enos as Sarah Linden, a police investigator following the murder of a young girl. The series premiered in April 2011 and was renewed for a second season in June.

The series drew criticism from fans when the mystery of Rosie Larsen's murder was not solved in season one. The case was solved in season two.

Enos was nominated for a 2011 Emmy Award for her role in the drama series. The actress will appear next in "Gangster Squad," opposite Sean Penn, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. The film is slated for release on January 11, 2013. Enos will also appear in the upcoming zombie science fiction film "World War Z" opposite Brad Pitt, Bryan Cranston and Matthew Fox." The film is slated for release on June 21, 2013.

In 2008, Enos married actor Alan Ruck, who portrayed Cameron Frye in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." The couple welcomed their daughter Vesper Vivianne Ruck on September 23, 2010.
