For "The Watch," Vince Vaughn teamed up with funny men Ben Stiller Jonah Hill and "IT Crowd" actor Richard Ayoade and talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at the film's premiere about shooting with the funny cast and combining genres for the movie.
"I think what's really fun about the film is it takes that supernatural genre -- but I've never seen it mashed-up with our comedic tone before and I think that's what audiences are really responding to," Vaughn said. "It feels very original and fresh that way."
Stiller, Vaughn Hill and Ayoade play a group of suburbanites who form a neighborhood watch group in order to spend some time away from their families and add some excitement to their lives. However, the group gets more than they bargained for when they stumble across an alien plot to threaten earth.
The movie was written by "Knocked Up" and "50/50" star Seth Rogen and "The Green Hornet" writer Evan Goldberg and directed by Akiva Schaffer.
Schaffer is likely best known as a member of the comedic music group The Lonely Island with "Saturday Night Live" former cast member Andy Samberg. The group's Digital Shorts and songs have appeared on the show. He previously directed the film "Hotrod" which starred Samberg.
Vaughn also said that with so many funny men in the cast, he could share comedic duties on the film.
"I think for this movie I'm a big fan of Jonah's and Ben's and Richard is so funny, so it was kind of fun to show up and let these guys carry the ball a lot," he said. "And Akiva, you know the 'SNL' shorts and stuff he did you know are so funny, he brought such a great point of view and perspective to the film."
"The Watch" hit theaters on July 27. Check out the trailer below.
