Lana Wachowski, born Lawrence or Larry Wachowski, made her first public appearance as a woman in a Director's Commentary video for the upcoming film, "Cloud Atlas."

Wachowski, who reportedly completed sexual reassignment surgery in 2008, appears in the video with bright pink dreadlocks, opposite her brother Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. The three filmmakers directed and wrote the script for the epic film.

The Wachowskis, who were formerly known as The Wachowski Brothers, are best known for creating "The Matrix" franchise. Tykwer is best known for directing "Run Lola Run," "Heaven," "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" and "The International."

Lana Wachowski, who identifies as being transgendered, has been transitioning for several years. The 47-year-old director is listed on some legal documents as Laurenca Wachowski.

"Cloud Atlas," which is based on the novel by David Mitchell, follows six different interconnected stories set in different times and place, including that of a journalist who investigates alleged corruption at a nuclear power plant in 1975 and a tribesman living a primitive life in a post-apocalyptic future.

The movie, which is slated for release on October 26, 2012, stars Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon.

Berry famously injured her foot while chasing a goat in-between filming "Cloud Atlas in Mallorca, Spain. In addition to Spain, the movie was also shot in Scotland and Germany.
